Catherine Stow Wins NHIAA Meet of Champions Girls’ Freestyle and Classic Races, Mitchell Townsend Finishes in Second Place in the Boy’s Classic, and Katie Watt takes Third in the Girls’ Skate Race
Andover NH – March 10, 2020 – Gunstock Nordic Association – Amid concerns of COVID-19 cancelling sporting sporting events across the nation and some early warm spring weather, the NHIAA pulled off one last race. GNA took full advantage of the opportunity with each of their participating skiers scoring podiums.
With temperatures rising into the 50s and snow quickly deteriorating, Catherine Stow (representing Gilford High School) took the classic 3.5k race with in a time of 10:54.8. Katie Watt (representing Concord High School) also had a strong race and just missed the medal ceremony with a seventh-pace finish (11:40.5) out of the 35 starters. In the boys’ 3.5k classic race, Mitchell Townsend (representing Gilford High School) just missed the top spot by only 4 seconds, finishing second in a time of 9:29.6.
In the following race, the 3.5k skate, Stow continued her strong skiing with a top time of 10:21.8, while Watt earned a podium spot with a time of 10:35.5—just missing second by two-tenths of a second! In the boys’ race Townsend skied to 5th out of the 28 starters with time of 9:42.2.

About the NHIAA Meet of Champions
At the conclusion of each high school ski season, the top ten ranked skiers from each division (4 divisions) in classic and freestyle technique (boys and girls) qualify to race the NHIAA Meet of Champions. The top 6 finishers in each event are awarded with individual medals.
